Visit the Absa Cape Epic spectator points to get up close and personal with the Untamed action!
At the 2023 Absa Cape Epic, teams from around the world will be going toe-to-toe with Africa’s most iconic yet demanding trails in a route that takes in 658 kilometres and 15 775 metres of climbing.
For some it’ll be a life-altering experience, for some it’ll be a career defining experience. But for all it’ll be an Untamed African MTB Race experience that has come to be expected over the past 18 editions of the race.
Fans of the sport, either living in or visiting the Western Cape during 19-26 March, are encouraged to visit the race villages and spectator points to witness the racing unfold first-hand, to experience the raw emotions on display, and to celebrate the heroes of the Absa Cape Epic.

STAGE 1
Spectator Point A: Hasher Family Wines
Hasher Family Wines hosts the first Spectator Point of Stage 1 and provides breathtaking views of the Hemel en Aarde Valley as the teams race through the estate’s grounds in the early kilometres of the stage. Fans who arrive early will be amongst the first to see the GC leaders in the 2023 Absa Cape Epic Ciovita leader jerseys.

Spectator Point B: Creation Wines
Creation Wines, one of the many famed wine estates hosts the first spectator point of Stage 1; teams will be fresh and eager to hear the cheers of friends and family.

Spectator Point C: The One
The ONE, an exclusive state-of-the-art venue, is conveniently located on Shaw’s Pass, situated between Hermanus and Caledon, and offers incredible opportunities to cheer on teams as they approach the halfway mark of Stage 1.

Spectator Point D: Spookfontein
In the renowned Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, nestled between the Kleinrivier and Babilonstoring Mountains, lies Spookfontein, the third and final spectator point for Stage 1.

STAGE 2
Spectator Point A: Stanford Market Square
The Stanford Market Square is the first opportunity for fans to catch a glimpse of teams as they refill and refuel at the USN Hydro station.

Spectator Point B: Beloftebos
At the end of a dirt road, near the most southern tip of Africa, tucked away in a valley, lies the gem called Beloftebos. The family farm hosts a full water point and spectator point 3.
Spectator Offering: Access to MTB trails, self-catering cottages for those who would like to stay the night.

Spectator Point C: Stanford Valley Country Lodge
Stanford Valley Country Lodge, in the Kleinriver valley, is as picturesque of an Absa Cape Epic spectator point as you’re likely to find with sweeping mountain views from every vantage. With the spectator point being in the second half of the stage, teams will appreciate the cheers and applause to keep spirits high.

Spectator Point D: Sir Robert Stanford
Sir Robert Stanford Winery has been producing wine since the 1890s; in 2023 it plays host to the final Spectator Point of Stage 2 situated at water point 3. You will see teams refuel to tackle the last of the day’s demands. Bring your cheering voice, they’ll need it!

STAGE 3
Spectator Point A: Wildekrans
Fans will have a good opportunity to catch a glimpse of the teams as they ride from Hermanus to the new race village in Oak Valley Estate. Wine tasting at Wildekrans Wine Estate or book a picnic ahead of time at the Tasting Room.

Spectator Point B: Beaumont Wines
Beaumont is the second spectator point on this route; fans can expect wine tasting and fresh deli produce to savour while the riders continue on this stage.

Spectator Point C: Houw Hoek
Voted as one of the best Farm Stalls in the Cape for 2022, Houw Hoek will have a relaxed feeling where young and old can enjoy great bites to eat, beverages and have a good view of some riders as well.

Spectator Point D:
Paul Cluver Amphitheatre
The final spot to see the riders finish their first moving day. This is also the first spectator point for the next stage, which is a time trial.

STAGE 4
Spectator Point: Paul Cluver Amphitheatre
With Stage 4 being a time trial, there’s only one spectator point on the 47km route. The Paul Cluver Amphitheatre provides the best possible opportunity to cheer on the leaders and watch friends and family as they enter the second half of race week.

STAGE 5
Spectator Point A: Elgin Grabouw Country Club
Elgin’s most popular country club is the location for the first Spectator Point of Stage 5. Pick up a Peregrine pie on your way to the Country Club and get ready to cheer on teams as they head toward the famed Gantouw Pass.

Spectator Point B: Idiom Wines
Located just after the infamous Gantouw Pass portage, Idiom Wines is the perfect place to watch teams race into the final demands of Stage 5, the Queen Stage of the 2023 Absa Cape Epic.

STAGE 6
Spectator Point: Lourensford Wine Estate
For the first time in Absa Cape Epic history, a full stage is being held within the boundaries of a single landowner. There are several spectator points from which fans can enjoy the racing, however no private vehicles will be allowed to enter the farm roads. Be sure to bring your MTB and kit as there will be guided tours to each spectator point for you to watch the racing unfold on the penultimate stage of the 2023 Absa Cape Epic.

STAGE 7
Spectator Point A: Waterford Estate
Situated in the Blaauwklippen Valley, Waterford Wine Estate presents the first opportunity for fans to see the teams race towards their finisher medals during Stage 7

Spectator Point B: Dornier Wines
Dornier Wines offers an exciting last chance to watch the teams refuel at the final water point of the 2023 event. Stay for a few hours to cheer on the teams further back or arrive early, watch the leaders arrive and then head off to Val de Vie for the Grand Finale celebrations.

Grand Finale: Val de Vie Estate
After eight long days of racing, the heroes of The Untamed African MTB Race will need a roaring welcome as they cross the final finish line at Val de Vie Estate. Join in the celebrations from 10:30 to watch the winners of the categories cross the line.

PROLOGUE
Meerendal Wine Estate
Fans are encouraged to visit the Prologue race village to cheer on teams as they roll down the start chute and into their encounter with the Untamed African MTB Race. There will be food and drinks on offer as well as various activations from the Absa Cape Epic sponsor family; fans eager to get out onto the route will have easy access to the trails from the race village.
